Snuff the Sniffle: Get Vaccinated This Flu Season
November 3, 2022

You wash your hands regularly, get plenty of rest, and pay close attention to your nutrition. You’re ready for flu season, right? Maybe not. You may have forgotten the most important thing you can do to help prevent getting the flu in the first place: having your flu shot.

Statistics overwhelmingly prove the benefits of an annual flu vaccine, but the excuses are many: you see your provider enough, why go in just for the vaccine? Will it really help? What will it cost? I had one last year, why do I need one this year?

Flu facts:

  • You need a flu vaccine every year. Variants change, and each year the vaccine is developed to combat those specific strains.
  • You cannot get the flu from a flu vaccine (mild side effects, but they’re nothing compared to the full-blown flu).
  • It takes two weeks for full effectiveness of the vaccine to take hold, so it’s smart to get it early rather than once the flu hits.
  • Older adults with underlying conditions (heart disease, diabetes, etc.) are at higher risk for flu complications.
  • Those 65 years old and greater are more likely to become even sicker with the flu.
  • Getting vaccinated helps keep those around you safe.
